The north-east’s foremost summer gala will close this weekend with a carnival through Peterhead town centre.
Scottish Week in the Blue Toon is one of the last remaining community galas across the country, and is believed to be the biggest.
After a successful seven days of festivities and community events, the 55th Scottish Week will reach a climax tomorrow with the traditional Songs of Praise event at the Salvation Army Hall.
The annual carnival through the town centre will begin at 2pm today and Fleetwood Mac tribute act, Fleetwood Bac, are set to perform at the Waterside Inn tonight.
Elsewhere today, Alice in Wonderland will be put on mock trial at Peterhead Sheriff Court and the vintage car and motorcycle rally will be held at the Peterhead Academy bus park on York Street.
A spokesman for the organising committee has described this week’s event as one of the finest in its history.
He added: “We had so many people enter all the events and challenges, so it was really great seeing so many people getting involved to make this one of the best Scottish Weeks ever.
Earlier this week, event vice-chairman Scott Ross described the gala – which included more than 60 events – as the “crowning jewel” in Buchan’s summer.
Thursday night’s raft race and bay swim proved to be the most popular events, with the arrival of The Blades aerobatic teams a special treat for the crowds.
In total, 11 teams entered the 2016 raft race and Team McGill secured first place for the fourth time in the last five years,
Asco’s amusingly named Usain Boat team claimed second and Peterhead Port Authority – who know the harbour better than most – came in third.
Of the 13 entrants to the gruelling bay swim challenge, Gregor Barnett finished first.
Peterhead’s Scottish Week has been held in the town every year since 1961 and attracts thousands of visitors from as far afield as Canada and Australia.
Traditional town galas across the country have steadily died out and the Peterhead event is now the largest of its kind in Scotland.
