A group committed to regenerating Aberdeen city centre has recruited a new manager to boost its links with businesses in the area.
And Geoff Cooper, who has worked in the food industry for 25 years, and will take up the new role with Aberdeen Inspired, said he believes Union Street can once again become a “jewel in the crown” of the city.
He will liaise with the group’s 700 levy payers and ensure their daily needs are being met.
He will also work with Aberdeen City Council on a variety of projects including spending £1million on improving Union Street.
Mr Cooper described it as an “exciting role” and added: “This is a fantastic opportunity to link up with Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council at a time when major investment is planned for Union Street amongst other key projects that are part of the city centre masterplan.
“Union Street can still be the jewel in Aberdeen’s crown, but it’s our goal to restore a sense of pride back into the thoroughfare.
“This is an exciting new role that has the ability to shape the further development of Aberdeen’s city centre and I can’t wait to play a part in future successes for the area.”
Deputy City Council leader, Cllr Marie Boulton, who chairs the cross-party city centre regeneration board, echoed Mr Cooper’s positivity.
She said: “The council is committed to creating a city centre everyone can be proud of – which is why we are funding the post of city centre manager.
“We welcome the appointment of Geoff, who brings a wealth of experience and insight to the post.”
