Police have today named the young woman killed after her car smashed into a wall on a north-east road.
She has been named as 21-year old Leanne McDonald of Montrose.
The former Montrose Academy pupil was studying at Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) School of Nursing and Midwifery in Aberdeen.
Professor Ian Murray, head of RGU’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, said: “Leanne was about to qualify as a children’s nurse and had a promising career ahead of her.”
Leanne lost her life after her car careered off the road and crashed into a wall on the A937 road between Marykirk and Craigo around 9.40pm on Sunday.
Her car, a grey Citroen C3 is understood to be the only vehicle involved in the crash. There were no other passengers.
The road was closed for a number of hours following the crash, with police investigators scouring the scene.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Leanne’s family are understandably upset by their sudden loss and have said that she will be greatly missed.
“They do not wish to make any further comments and have requested that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.
“Enquiries into the full set of circumstances of the incident are on-going and Tayside Division would appeal for anyone who may have information that could assist officers with their enquiries to contact Tayside Division on 101.
“As with all sudden deaths a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
