An historic Aberdeen department store will permanently close its doors within weeks, it has been revealed. British Home Stores announced that the city’s Union Street store will shut for good by Saturday, August 20. Staff at the branch have now been told consultation over redundancies will begin. Around 50 jobs are set to be lost in Aberdeen following the closure. The store was the largest in Britain when it opened its doors in August 1970.
