A north-east tourist attraction swung open its doors to treat a young spina bifida sufferer after learning of his passion for history.
Fyvie Castle celebrated its 30th anniversary as a public attraction earlier this month and called in the help of 10-year-old Dylan Morrice to help celebrate the occasion.
Dylan, who suffers from both spina bifida and ADHD, and his mum had been regular visitors to the castle in recent months, where staff were “charmed” by the eager youngster.
He showed such enthusiasm for the castle and its grounds that he even impressed Lady Forbes-Leith, wife of laid Sir George, who invited him for a personal tour.
A spokeswoman for the attraction said: “We wanted to find out who he was, so we could show him more of the castle he so loved.
“So we put a call out on Facebook and over 20,000 people helped us find him.”
She added that the post became one of the most popular the castle had ever made, and allowed staff to track down Dylan’s mum, Lucinda to extend the invite.
“They came along to the castle’s 30th anniversary of opening to the public where Dylan met Lady Forbes-Leith,” she said.
“She too was taken by his passion for Fyvie, and invited him for a private tour of the estate with the laird.”
Ms Morrice, from Turriff, has said the visits to Fyvie Castle have been of a “real benefit” to her son.
She added: “We had a truly amazing tour from Sir George who we can’t thank enough for a truly amazing time.”
