A young Scottish golf star has is helping a north east charity’s drive to raise vital funds.
Curtis Cup player Michele Thomson, who is currently leading the Ladies European Tour Access Series Order of Merit, has lent her support to the inaugural charity ladies golf day in aid of Archway.
Miss Thomson, from Ellon, will be joining amateur players from across the north-east to support the charity, which helps people in the region with learning disabilities.
She said: “Archway is an Aberdeen-based charity offering a lifeline of caring services to almost 200 children, young people and adults with learning disabilities throughout the north east.
“Most golfers are very community-minded and I’m sure they will be delighted to support this event.
“Lady golfers of all abilities can enjoy a great day of golf and support a great local cause and I will be on hand with advice and maybe a wee competition or two.”
Archway press officer and fundraising manager, Janine Davies, said: “Every year we have an annual men’s tournament, which a few ladies take part in, but this year we thought it would be nice to have just a ladies golf day.
“We’ve only just opened registration and already have seven or eight teams and are looking for around 18 in total.
“We are so delighted that Michele has put her backing and involvement into this event.
“It is fantastic and she is very keen for golfers of all abilities to take part and she is going to do whatever they want on the day – whether that’s question and answer, beat the pro or give a little clinic, it will be a great day.
“The day is for all abilities, it will be a very friendly tournament and we’re sure it we be a great event, you can meet Michele and raise funds for Archway.”
The event will be held at Newburgh Golf Club on Friday, September 9.
The cost for a team of four is £180 including golf, soup and sandwiches on arrival and high tea afterwards.
