(Picture: Colin Rennie) A dog walker has been rescued from a north-east river after he tried to save his animals from the water. Emergency services were alerted to the incident, in Port Elphinstone, at about 1.20pm. It is understood the man’s dogs had got stuck in the River Don and he went in after them to rescue them but has now been stranded on an island. Two appliances and two water rescue units, with 26 firefighters on board, were needed at the scene. The man, who does not require medical treatment, and his two dogs are now safe
