A north-east harbour was visited by princesses, highland dancers and a dinosaur as the local community celebrated gala day.
The annual summer Buchanhaven Habour Open Day, held in the picturesque fishing village which is now part of Peterhead, took place on Saturday.
The event was the biggest yet as hundreds of people turned out in the sunshine to enjoy the harbour attractions as well as a fun fair and car boot sale.
Visitors to the harbour also had the chance to meet costumed Disney princess characters and a replica dinosaur and accompanying Jurassic Park 4×4.
Last night Arthur McKenzie, chairman of the harbour committee, said: “The day went amazingly, it stayed dry, there was sunshine in the morning for setting up but then was overcast. Thankfully the rain stayed off for us and everyone managed to come down and enjoy themselves.”
Mr McKenzie thanked a host of people who contributed to the event, including Liz Scott from the Buchan Development Partnership and Dawn Brodie from Aberdeenshire Council who opened the day.
“It was a great day out people enjoying themselves on the jet skis and out on the boat trips or even just sitting down and a cup of tea or a nice burger or kipper,” the chairman added.
“The open day is a great day out every year and is key for raising money to run the harbour but mostly to help local charities every year.”
Mr McKenzie added that the harbour committee are now looking for sponsors for next year’s gala day in an effort to make the event “bigger each year”.
Formally a separate fishing community, Buchanhaven now forms part of the north-east’s biggest town. However, it retains a strong community spirit and an active heritage society.
