Thieves have carried out a daring smash-and-grab at a north-east jewellers.
Unique Jewels, on Fraserburgh’s Cross Street, was raided at about 3am yesterday, with the culprits making away with about £1,000 of stock – including custom earring and a necklace.
The thieves used a brick to smash the window before grabbing the items and fleeing.
Last night, shop owner Jay Sprigg urged anyone who may be offered the goods to contact the police.
He estimated that about £1,000 worth of items were taken.
“They’ve managed to get part of a brick and smash through a window,” he said.
“They’ve basically smashed a hole big enough to reach in and grab just under £1,000 worth of stuff. It’s unique stuff, so hopefully it will be spotted.”
Mr Sprigg opened the shop two years ago, offering customers unique accessories which is handmade by himself.
He added: “My stuff is generally custom order, so I don’t think any of it would be on the second-hand market as yet. So if anyone sees any of my boxes going around for sale, it would be worth letting the police know – even just to get it checked.
“We’ve got a second anniversary party opening in just under two weeks time, so this is gutting.”
A silver heart shaped necklace and earrings, a man’s gold bracelet and two gold chains were taken in the theft.
The total value of the items stolen is £995.
The shop was closed for part of yesterday as police examined the scene.
No one from the police was available to comment last night.
