Controversial plans to build housing, including a retirement home, and a sports centre in an Aberdeen conservation area have taken another step forward.
The proposals for a 24-acre site south of North Deeside Road between Garthdee and Cults were unveiled by developers Charles Ferrari and David Suttie earlier this year.
A road would also be built through the complex across the railway line, and the developers have pledged it will not cost taxpayers a penny.
Now the developers have submitted a proposal of application notice for housing, 49 retirement homes, a sports centre and the new road connecting North Deeside Road and Inchgarth Road.
However, the plans have caused concern among some residents since they were first announced.
Paul O’Connor, former chairman of Garthdee Community Council, said he was sceptical about the benefits the relief road might have for the area.
He said: “In terms of the community, it’s very hard to see if the link road will be positive or whether it will invite more people through Garthdee.
“The link road is also part of one of the Bridge of Dee options so it would save the council money if these plans go ahead.
“You have also got the AWPR route and we don’t know how that will tie in.”
Last night, the developers said they welcomed the chance to discuss the scheme.
Charlie Ferrari, property development director at Cults Property Development Company Ltd said: “We look forward to the opportunity to discuss the proposals with a range of interested parties.”
A consultation meeting is scheduled to take place at the Marcliffe on September 14.
It will consist of a drop-in session where developers will be on hand to answer any questions the public might have.
