BT has welcomed the news that plans to convert the company’s engineering centre in Aberdeen into residential units have been recommended for approval.
Under the proposal, 80 residential apartments would be built at the site on Froghall Terrace alongside accommodation for 425 students.
BT has insisted employment in the area would be maintained if the scheme is given the go-ahead.
A spokeswoman said: “We are very pleased the Froghall Terrace application has been recommended for approval by Aberdeen City Council officers.
“The multimillionpound proposals provide an excellent opportunity to sympathetically develop an under-utilised brownfield site in the heart of the city.
“These will deliver 80 new homes, 25% of which are affordable and accommodation for up to 425 students, as well as creating a significant amount of jobs both during the construction phases and then management of the student accommodation.”
“If approved, this high-quality development would provide regeneration to the local area.
“But it also would unlock the investment that would enable BT’s operations to relocate to a purpose-built site on the south of the city, crucially helping to maintain employment within the area.”
