A north-east photographer has captured a stunning photograph of five meteors soaring above the north-east sky in just one shot.
Jame Stoddart snapped the incredible picture despite heavy rain and cloud cover in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire.
The picture was taken on Tuesday evening as the Perseid meteor shower soared across our skies.
The Perseids become visible when Earth plows through a cloud of fragments left behind by comet Swift-Tuttle, which last flew near the sun back in 1992.
As the space rock zooms in from deeper reaches of the solar system, its ices vaporize and it releases debris ranging in size from sand grains to boulders.
The pieces then rush into our atmosphere at speeds of around 100,000mph, causing the meteors to burn up and produce stunning nighttime displays.
