A north-east man has been left stunned after discovering that 75 small fish have appeared on his desktop – despite him living more than 500m from the sea.
Kevin Bain, from Banff, Aberdeenshire, came across the discovery in his back garden yesterday morning.
He believes their arrival could be the result of a waterspout having sucked up the fish from the sea and then dropping them on his property.
Now Mr Bain has launched a campaign to help identity what kind of fish they are.
Speaking to BBC Scotland, he said: “To start with, I thought the fish had been dropped by bird but there were far too many.
“It has been stormy for the past few nights, so it’s possible that a water spout has lifted the fish from the sea during the bad weather.
“It’s a really strange phenomenon.”
Waterspouts, which look similar to tornadoes, begin life as funnel clouds and occur during heavy rain or thunderstorms.
