A north-east harbour has raised a record-breaking sum during an annual open day event.
Peterhead’s Buchanhaven Harbour celebrated its heritage at a gala earlier this month.
And this week when volunteers banked the money they realised they had raised sums which broke a 20-year record.
Previously the most cash ever raised at the popular event previously stood at £10,325.
But this year’s festivities raised almost £500 more.
Last night, Arthur McKenzie, the chairman of the harbour committee, said the money would be used to support local charities.
“The day went amazing thankfully the weather stayed dry until we packed up which was a bonus,” he added.
“It seemed to be the busiest year yet, going by the number of people that turned up on the day, and going by our feedback we’re getting, everyone seemed to enjoy the day which makes the committee and organisers really happy.
“I just can’t thank everyone enough for all their help as the people who are involved every year put so much time and effort into making it such an amazing day. Most of the helpers aren’t even from Buchanhaven but want to help as they love the event.
“It makes such an amazing day possible – we’ve a great team of people behind the gala.”
Visitors to this year’s open day had the chance to meet costumed Disney princess characters and even a replica dinosaur.
And planning is already underway for next year.
“We’re also looking to make the open day even bigger next year so we are looking for companies to get on board to sponsor the event,” Mr McKenzie said.
“Please get in touch if you are interested.”
