A busy road in an Aberdeenshire town was closed for more than nine hours yesterday after a burst water main ruptured large sections of tarmac.
Police were called to the scene of the incident on Westhill Drive early yesterday morning.
Around 18 homes were left without water for most of the day as massive puddles formed along the usually-busy commuter route.
The pipe burst resulted in major delays for commuters travelling to and from Westhill.
After more than nine hours without water, the final homes affected by the burst pipe finally had their supplies restored at around 5pm
However, the section of road affected by the burst pipe will remain closed until the damage caused by the incident has been repaired.
An investigation into the cause of the leak will also take place.
A spokesman for Scottish Water said: “Scottish Water was made aware of reports of no water and a potential burst in the Westhill Drive area early yesterday morning.
“A team attended and worked hard to repair the main. This was carried out as quickly as possible.
“The section of road affected will be closed until a final reinstatement of the road surface, which will take place as quickly as possible. Diversions are in place.
“Scottish Water apologises for the disruption, and thanks customers for their patience.”
