A lonely meerkat has welcomed a new companion at Pets Corner in Aberdeen’s Hazlehead Park.
A four-year-old male has joined Dee the meerkat – who has been at the council-run animal attraction since July 2017.
Dee arrived at Pets Corner with fellow pup Don, who unexpectedly died due to a heart condition two months ago.
Council officers confirmed that a post-mortem would be carried out and that work was under way to find Dee a new companion.
Soon after, they were able to source a new meerkat, which was donated by Auchingarich Wildlife Centre in Perthshire.
The new meerkat has also been named Don.
Aberdeen City Council operational delivery convener John Wheeler said: “The baby meerkats have been such a popular attraction, with visitors both young and old, and it’s great we have a replacement for Don, and he has been getting on great with Dee in the special meerkat home.
“We look forward to welcoming lots of people through the doors in the coming months to see the new Don.”
Other animal attractions at Pets’ Corner include alpacas, kune kune pigs, miniature donkeys, reptiles, budgies, chipmunks, ferrets and guinea pigs.
The council-run space is also is home to Lou Lou and Gethin the pygmy goats and Vadar the albino Burmese python.
Dee and Don, and all their animal friends, can be visited between 10.30 and 5.30pm until October.
