We revealed today that leading Aberdeen retail bosses are calling for the urgent pedestrianisation of the city’s famous Union Street.
We asked some north-east residents what their view is:
“I don’t think it should be pedestrianised, no, because getting to that section of town is hard enough with Broad Street closed to traffic.”
Alan Shand, 39, IT worker, Ellon
“I think it would be OK. We need to reduce our dependence on cars and get people to take the bus or cycle.”
David Phimister, 62, engineer, Aberdeen
“It would be a good idea and might bring more visitors to the city centre. It would be easier for families who can wander about and not worry about cars and pollution.”
Nicola Williams, 34, secondary school teacher, Bridge of Don
“They could try it. There’s always a lot of traffic and it makes it difficult to cross the road.”
Barbara Mason, 73, retired masseuse, Ferryhill
