After years of campaigning and fundraising, a new life-saving helicopter crew will begin work at Aberdeen Airport. To mark the occasion, here are six facts you might not know about SCAA. 1. Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance has dealt with more than 2,000 emergency callouts since 2013 2. It has responded to more than 270 road traffic accidents across Scotland 3. And more than 160 motorcycle accidents across the country in the past seven years 4. The air ambulance can transport a patient from Elgin to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in 20 minutes – 83 minutes faster than road ambulance Have a look through this gallery to see the other incredible time differences for across Scotland. 5. Helimed 79 can carry a pilot, two paramedics, a patient plus guardian – and a SCAA teddy bear 6. The new helicopter weighs the same as 195 microwave ovens.
