Updated plans for a new £185million Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre will go on display over the next three days.
Developers will present revised artists’ impressions of the proposed complex at Bucksburn in three events in the second stage of a public consultation process.
Henry Boot Developments, which is working with Aberdeen City Council on the project, will also outline options for the existing conference site at Bridge of Don.
Nick Harris, regional manager for Henry Boot, said there was a “really good response” to the first round of public engagement in May, with 72% of those attending approving the design.
He said: “There were a lot of valuable comments, which hopefully we have responded to where we can, and we hope that is a precursor to a similar good turnout and that people will come along to see how our plans have evolved.”
The main arena new conference centre would house up to 15,000 people standing, while there would be enhanced conference space and a four-star, 200-bedroom hotel.
A “green energy” centre which would generate enough power for the new AECC and potentially, the wider area, is also planned.
Architect Charles Bell, director of Glasgow-based company Sasanbell, said feedback from the first events was “very encouraging”.
Chief among the issues raised by members of the public were traffic congestion in the Dyce and Bucksburn area.
Mr Harris said Henry Boot were “acutely aware” of the roads issues around an “almost unprecedented level of development” around the airport.
He revealed that council officials are working on a “holistic” study of the road network, which takes into account all of the proposed schemes, including the AECC and two new business parks.
It is expected that an application for planning permission in principle for both AECC sites will be made in November, with detailed plans to be lodged in January.
A business case for the scheme will also be presented to councillors in December.
Angela Taylor, the council’s vice-convener of enterprise, strategic planning and infrastructure, said: “We want to encourage people to come along to the consultation events, that is absolutely crucial.”
The first event is tonight at the Jesmond Centre, Bridge of Don, from 12pm to 8pm, followed by the Beacon Centre in Bucksburn from 12pm to 8pm on Friday and Aberdeen Art Gallery on Saturday from 12pm to 5pm.
