Legendary boxer Frank Bruno will take centre stage at a charity sportsman’s dinner hosted by the Wood Group later this month.
The veteran will offer insights from his boxing career, during which he won 40 out of the 45 fights he contested with 38 knockouts.
The November 20 event will be hosted by retired footballer Joe Allon, who appeared for Newcastle United, Hartlepool and Chelsea.
There will also be comedy from north-east personality Patrick Wight, better known as Patrice.
Proceeds from the evening at the Marriott Hotel in Dyce will go to charity groups the Vine Trust and Maggie’s.
The Vine Trust is an international charity which enables volunteering to help some of the poorest people in the world.
Maggie’s is a charity which offers free emotional and practical support to sufferers of cancer as well as to their family.
It began in cancer specialist hospitals, with its first unit being set up in Edinburgh in 1996.
There are now 18 centres across the UK, including one at Foresterhill in Aberdeen, thanks to the £3million Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal, led by Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation and the Press and Journal.
Jack Williams is a graduate project controls engineer with Wood Group PSN, which is spearheading this month’s charity event. He will travel to Tanzania with the Vine group later on this year.
He said: “Social responsibility is one of Wood Group’s Core Values, and as a company we are passionate about making a difference within communities where we operate on a local and global scale.
“The opportunity to travel to Tanzania with Vine Trust next year to make an impact on the lives of those living in poverty in this part of the world is one that I will cherish.”
The event takes place on November 20 at the Marriott Hotel in Dyce. Tickets are still available at a cost of £50 per person.
