Police have charged a 19-year-old man in connection with offensive comments allegedly about a young boy with Down’s Syndrome.
The comments, allegedly about 11-year-old Celtic fan Jay Beatty, were made following Celtic’s 4-0 win against Aberdeen yesterday and Police Scotland this evening confirmed a 19-year-old man has been charged.
Football fans across the country have taken young Jay to heart after the Celtic players invited him to take part in their title celebrations, while last month the youngster was awarded the SPFL goal of the month award for a penalty he scored at half time in Celtic’s match at Hamilton.
Chief Inspector Murray Main said “Police Scotland is committed to tackling antisocial behaviour be it in the street, in a football ground or online on social media sites.”
A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal and the man will appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.
