Dons defender Shay Logan was the target of the tweet, which was circulated prior to the the side’s 4-0 defeat to Celtic at the weekend. A complaint was made to police last night, and an investigation is now underway. However, police only received a complaint about the tweet late last night. The post made reference to the SFA finding Celtic winger Aleksandar Tonev guilty of racially abusing Logan during a previous game last September. Tonev was banned for seven games, despite insisting he was innocent. This is the latest in a series of police investigations into offensive tweets over the past week. Yesterday, an Aberdeen recruitment worker was suspended by his employer in connection with a sectarian tweet directed at Hoops forward Leigh Griffiths. And on Monday, a 19-year-old was charged by police for allegedly posting an offensive message about Jay Beatty, an 11-year-old Celtic fan who has Down’s Syndrome and won the SPFL goal of the month for January.
