A man and woman in their aged 23 and 24 were killed in a horror crash in Aberdeen’s Hilton Drive last night.
The collision took place between a grey Alfa Romeo and an orange KTM motorbike at around 8.50pm.
UPDATE: The couple have now been named locally.
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed that the pair were a male and female in their 20s.
He said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman have died following a collision involving a motorcycle and a car on Hilton Drive at its crossroads junction with Hilton Road, Aberdeen, at around 8.54pm on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.
“The collision involved a black and orange KTM off road motorcycle and a silver Alfa Romeo motor car.
“The 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and the 24-year-old woman was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she sadly died. The 44-year-old man who was driving the Alfa Romeo car was uninjured. No one else was involved in the collision.
“The road was closed for around five hours to allow for collision investigation to take place.”
Speaking from the scene Inspector Ian Kirkwood of Police Scotland’s road policing unit said that officers would be carrying out investigations until the early hours of the morning.
He added: “”Enquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this collision are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision to contact us on 101.”
It is believed that police will be informing relatives of the deceased today.
The road was closed overnight and re-opened at around 6 am.
