Pupils from an Aberdeen primary school are in the running for a national award after producing a time-travel inspired film warning about the future of the environment.
In the eight-minute film, named Doomed? the youngsters from Hanover Street School build a time machine to go back through the ages to see the impact humans have had on the world.
The group of 22 primary one pupils completed the project in tandem with a recycling drive which has raised hundreds of pounds for the Mary’s Meals charity.
The Aberdeen team has emerged as Scottish winners in the UK-wide TOTAL Green Schools Award 2015.
A group of six pupils – whose names were drawn from a hat – will travel to London with staff today, where a grand prize of £5,000 will be presented to the overall winner in a ceremony at London Zoo.
Teacher Elizabeth Elrick said: “This is something that the primary one pupils have been working on for a whole year; they wanted to make a film about what can be done to look after the world.
“We are all just delighted to be the Scottish champions, as far as we are concerned that is enough, if anything else happens in London then that will be a bonus.”
Councillor Angela Taylor, the city council’s convener of education and children’s services, said: “It is great to see the young people take such an interest in the world around them, and we will be keeping our fingers crossed on June 23 that they can bring the grand prize back to Aberdeen.”
