All of Aberdeenshire Council’s pay and display car parks will now be free for motorists to use as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
By suspending all parking charges, the council aims to eliminate the need for the public to have to touch ticket machines, and get rid of any requirement for staff to attend them – reducing the risk of virus spread.
The change will apply to all off-street car parks in Aberdeenshire.
Deputy council leader Peter Argyle revealed the move in budget talks this week.
He said: “While a small amount in cash terms for individuals, I hope that this decision will provide a little help for all in these exceptional times”.
