A ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of a new Aberdeenshire school complex will take place today.
The £37million Alford Community Campus is due to open in August 2015 and will cater for more than 960 children in early years, primary and secondary education.
The site at Greystone Road will feature a theatre, gym, sports hall and dance studio, and all-weather and grass playing fields, along with public facilities such as a swimming pool and a library.
Miller Construction and Hub North Scotland are working on the project with the local authority and began the preparatory stages in October last year.
Aberdeenshire Provost Jill Webster, who will meet pupils from Alford Primary and Alford Academy for the ceremony later, said: “Alford Primary School and Alford Academy already have a very close working relationship, and the new campus will develop that bond even further.
“But more than that, the campus will also provide modern, high quality facilities for the wider community, making it a real focal point for day to day activity in Alford.
“Today marks an important step in developing this excellent resource.”
