Moray is forecast to be warmer than Istanbul this weekend as a burst of tropical weather from the Caribbean hits the north and north-east.
The east of Scotland is enjoying a three-day heatwave with dry skies and 17C highs hotter than Majorca.
Tropical south-westerly air from Bermuda will deliver a soaking for some – before drying out as it crosses the Highlands and delivering Scotland’s warmest days of the year.
Meanwhile the west of the country will experience a 72-hour deluge of rain which could drop as much as eight inches.
However, the unseasonal sunshine is unlikely to last with the weather turning colder again on Monday.
In the Highlands the predictions are for mild and windy weather on Saturday turning colder and drier on Sunday and Monday with wintry showers.
The Met Office’s Stuart Brooks in Aberdeen said: “The direction of the winds has a big effect on the weather this weekend.
“With this strong south-west breeze the rain is being dropped on the west before making its way to the east.
“Moray will be particularly shielded by the Highland mountains so we should see the highest temperatures recorded there.
“The precise direction of the wind determines whether the hotter weather lands on the Moray or Aberdeenshire coast. This time Moray has been lucky.
“Lossiemouth and Kinloss are the usual suspects for reporting the highest temperatures but it could easily be Forres, Buckie or Elgin.
“Aberdeen itself will be cooler as it is less easterly but there will still be nice weather for this time of year.”
Looking to the north Mr Brooks added: “Inverness and Nairn are not far behind Moray in terms of temperature.
“It should be between 14C and 16C there on Saturday but will, like everywhere, be cool on Sunday and a bit chillier by Monday.
“The weather is pretty changeable at the moment and by Monday the north-east will be back to averages of around 7C or 8C.”
The Turkish capital of Istanbul is forecast temperatures between 6-7C over the weekend.
