A man attacked his partner with a samurai sword after a night out drinking, Inverness Sheriff Court was told yesterday.
David Cameron, now of Riddrie in Glasgow, was convinced his drink had been spiked and led to the violence, the court heard.
But his defence lawyer, Eugene Boyle, told Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood that they could not substantiate the claim and Cameron pleaded guilty to assault to injury and a breach of the peace on the morning of his trial.
The 39-year-old admitted assaulting Jennifer Hillhouse in their house in Esk Road, Inverness, on May 30 last year by seizing her by the body, throwing a hoover attachment at her, striking her with a plastic table, seizing her by the hair and spitting on her.
He also brandished a samurai sword at her and struck her on the leg with it to her injury.
He admitted presenting it at two police officers who came to help after a dog-walker saw the attack taking place.
Fiscal Roderick Urquhart said: “Mr Andrew Innes saw Miss Hillhouse’s head being struck against a window and then her being struck with a child’s plastic table.
“He ran home and phoned the police and returned to the area so he could direct the police to the correct house.
“He has to be commended for his public spirited action. Two officers entered the house and when he saw them, he picked up the sword and said he would not be arrested.
“But unknown to him, there was a third officer with a dog behind him. He was fortunate not to have the dog set on him as the other officer grabbed the sword from behind and brought him to the ground.”
The prosecutor added that the sword was an ornamental one and was not sharp.
“Miss Hillhouse suffered swelling to her eyebrow, bruising to her face, arms, shin and thigh as well as scratches and swelling to her neck and ankle,” he said.
“The relationship has ended.”
When interviewed by police, Cameron told them: “I am sure my drink was spiked last night. I am so sorry.”
Sentence was deferred for a background report on Cameron, who admitted previous convictions, and he will re-appear on September 30.
Bail was continued.
