Inverness Sheriff Court was told yesterday that Craig Byars had taken £995 from the Subway takeaway in Aviemore. The 41-year-old did so at a time when he was entrusted with looking after the premises due to a manager being ill. Defence lawyer Marc Dickson said: “He was a respected and trustworthy employee. “But he became engaged at that time and his future wife – now his ex-partner – and her family were looking forward to a lavish wedding. “He took the money to provide a wedding he couldn’t afford.” Byars admitted the offence which took place between October 1, 2014, and November 11, 2014. Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood noted Byars previous convictions and jailed him for four months. “He has a habit of taking things that don’t belong to him,” the sheriff said.
