An offshore oil worker was jailed for eight weeks after admitting stealing two bottles of wine from an Inverness supermarket.
Sheriff Margaret Neilson told 24-year-old Richard Watson of Redwood Avenue, Inverness: “You had only been released from a previous jail sentence nine days before. You seem to be on a mission to self destruct.”
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Watson, who admitted previous convictions, had been remanded in custody since August 15, two days after the offence.
His sentence was backdated until then.
Defence agent Clare Russell said: “He was refused service in Morrisons because he had had too much to drink.”
