A man has appeared in court on an attempted murder charge after a stabbing in a Moray town.
Liam Forsyth made no plea when he appeared in private on petition at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday.
The 23-year-old was arrested by police probing an incident in the town’s Lesmurdie Road which left a man seriously injured.
Forsyth, whose address was given simply as Elgin, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.
He is expected to appear in court again next week.
A 26-year-old man was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin on Tuesday night with what is thought to have been a chest wound following a violent fracas at a property in Lesmurdie Road.
The incident happened around 11.20pm.
Eyewitnesses said he appeared to have been stabbed in the chest, and was seen pressing a blood-soaked T-shirt against the wound.
Police confirmed that his condition was initially being treated as serious, but that he was now stable.
Residents in Lesmurdie Road said about a dozen people became involved in a heated argument at a house near the Deanshaugh Road junction.
Throughout Wednesday, a large stretch of the street was cordoned-off as police examined the area and officers with sniffer dogs searched gardens near the scene of the incident.
Forensic teams could also be seen removing items from the property in evidence bags.
Last night, Elgin City North councillor Patsy Gowans said she was “shocked” by the incident.
She added: “Lesmurdie Road is a lovely place to live, as is the wider Bishopmill area, so I think it’s important for people to remember that these incidents are rare.”
