A man who walked into an Inverness police station with a knife and said he was looking for “somewhere safe to stay” will be sentenced next month.
Duffy Reid, of the city’s Wyvis Place, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted illegal possession of the 11in kitchen knife in Burnett Road Police Station on December 27.
The 33-year-old will re-appear on November 9 after a background report has been prepared.
His defence lawyer, Shahid Latif told Sheriff Margaret Neilson it was “a bizarre incident.”
He added: “He had been living in Edinburgh and ingesting illegal highs. When he came back to Inverness he was feeling depressed and not coping at home.
“He took the knife so he could find a safe place to stay.”
Fiscal Roderick Urquhart said: “When he entered the Police Station, he told the sergeant that he had a blade down the front of his trousers.
“As the sergeant could not see anything, he asked Duffy to remove the blade from the front of his trousers and place it in a deposit tray on the front counter. ”
“He did so and was then arrested. He told one of the arresting constables that he had come to the police station as he needed help and wasn’t coping at home.
“It transpired from statements of other constables and the CCTV record that he had been loitering outside the police station for about an hour prior to going in.” Mr Urquhart added.
