A dangerous driver who came round a corner straddling the road’s white lines in the face of a police car was banned for a year yesterday.
George Thomson, 67, of Airds Bay, Taynuilt, was also fined £500 at Oban Sheriff Court.
Police Constable Colin May said he was on patrol driving towards Tyndrum when the incident took place.
PC May said: “I was negotiating a left hand bend, the road markings were double solid white lines. As I was coming round the bend I was confronted with a car half way onto my side of the road, straddling solid white lines.
“I had to brake otherwise there would have been a head on.”
Thomson went on trial denying that his driving was dangerous. His solicitor Robin White suggested the police car would have gone off the road if this was the case.
The driving took place on the A85 Oban to Perth road between Tyndrum and Arrivain Cottage on October 17.
Thomson was convicted of crossing double white lines to enter the opposing carriageway and on the same stretch slightly farther along, entering the opposing carriageway without a clear view of the road ahead and on the approach to a blind bend.
