An Oban lorry driver has pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of amphetamines after being caught using his vehicle to transport the drug to Argyll.
Iain MacEwan, 44, of Polvinister Road, appeared at the town’s sheriff court yesterday.
The offence took place at Littlemill Court in Bowling, Glasgow and Glengallan Road, Oban, on June 27.
Fiscal Eoin McGinty said: “A witness was within her home in Bowling, Glasgow, the address is quite a new residential court.
“She happened to be looking out her window when she saw a lorry pull into the court. Shortly after that a BMW car pulled in beside it.
“She saw the driver of the lorry, which had Oban Express written on the side of it, wearing a high visibility jacket. She saw what she believed to be a transaction taking place.
“The passenger jumped out of the BMW, crossed the road and got into the lorry and put a backpack down. She said it looked to be swapped with a similar backpack. Whilst in the cab the lorry driver passed a package then the person put this in the front of his trousers and went back to the BMW.”
The woman contacted police and when MacEwan arrived in Oban officers were waiting.
They saw him pull up in Glengallan Road where he was approached by Oban man Lawrie Campbell, 51.
Mr McGinty said: “Campbell approached the lorry and the driver reached over and handed him a green plastic bag.”
The bag was seized and slightly more than a kilogram of amphetamine was seized.
The Fiscal said this had a dealer value of around £1,900 or if subdivided, a street value of in the region of £10,000.
Campbell, of 7 Jura Road, Soroba, Oban, previously pleaded guilty to being in possession of amphetamine with intent to supply.
Sheriff Ruth Anderson QC said she would require background reports to be prepared.
Sentence on both men was deferred until November 8.
