Harry McPherson’s daughter said last night it was “shocking” that the driver who caused his death had been spared a prison sentence.
Pauline Flynn appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court for sentencing after a jury found her guilty of careless driving, resulting in the death of 61-year-old Harry McPherson and seriously injuring his wife, Patricia.
The mum-of-two, however, avoided jail because of what Sheriff Andrew Miller described as the “bleak” prospects her two teenage daughters would face without a guardian.
She said she was left shocked that Flynn avoided jail and that she felt “let down”.
“Surely a life is worth more than 300 hours community service and a driving ban,” she said.
“I appreciate that woman did not set out to kill anyone that night, but the fact is she did and she should be held accountable for that.
“I find it absolutely shocking that the reason she wasn’t jailed is because of the negative impact it would have on her teenage daughters.”
She added that her own and her mother’s life had been left “ruined” by the mum-of-two’s actions.
“We won’t ever forget this,” she said.
“She gets to carry on with her life as if nothing has happened.
“She has a proven track record of driving convictions and has now killed someone, and dragged my mother through a trial when she has already been through enough.”
Ms McPherson, who was flanked by pals throughout Flynn’s trial, thanked them and the collision investigators, jury and the Crown for their work on the case.
