Two men who were part of an “organised plan” to bring amphetamines into Oban were jailed yesterday.
Lorry driver Iain MacEwan, 44, used his vehicle to transport the Class B drug from Bowling, near Glasgow.
The offence took place at Littlemill Court in Bowling on June 27, when he was seen collecting a package from men in a BMW car.
Oban police caught him later that day giving the package to Lawrie Campbell, 51, on Glengallan Road.
The package was found to contain a kilogram of the drug.
MacEwan, of Polvinister Road, Oban, who previously pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply, was jailed for eight months.
Campbell, of 7 Jura Road, Oban, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply and was jailed for seven months.
Sheriff Ruth Anderson said: “On that day you were part of an organised plan to carry class B drugs in to the Oban area.
“Iain MacEwan, you abused your position as a driver with a local firm to facilitate the carrying out of that plan.
“There has also been to my mind a failure to fully cooperate with police. You could have given information by naming the third party in Oban or information regarding those involved at the Bowling end of things.
“Iain MacEwan, you were part of this chain of supply, I do not accept for a minute your stated position you were not aware of what you were involved in.
“You may not have known the quantity or the nature of the drugs but it is obvious to anybody you knew you were involved in a chain of supply of drugs.”
Solicitor Paul Sweeney said MacEwan accepted his behaviour had been “stupid and reckless”.
Laura McManus said that Campbell had been addicted to amphetamines and had purchased half of the kilogram for his own use. The other half had been purchased by an unnamed third party.
