An Inverness man deliberately set off a fire alarm after he was evicted from his homeless accommodation for causing a disturbance.
Alan O’Neill appeared from custody at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted a number of offences including behaving in a threatening manner at the Highland Homeless Trust in Church Street on September 20 this year.
He was again remanded in custody until December 22 for a background report.
Fiscal depute David Morton said O’Neill, now of no fixed address, was a resident in a room at the Highland Homeless Trust in Church Street, Inverness, and had barricaded himself in his room.
“When police arrived he refused to allow them entry. But he eventually did come out of the room but before he did so he uttered various threats of violence saying ‘If you come near me this time I will stab you’,” said Mr Morton.
“The Trust then evicted him. But he turned up at the trust offices later that day and was refused a return. On hearing that he set off the fire alarm by striking the glass panel for no good reason,” he said.
O’Neill also admitted two charges of stealing fuel worth more than £50 from two filling stations – at the Esso in Longman Road and Blackpark in Inverness.
He added that at the time of the offences 25-year-old O’Neill had no motor insurance and was on bail at the time.
O’Neill was again arrested by police on November 4 this year on another matter.
Mr Morton added; “In a police vehicle he became “difficult” with officers and kicked at the body of a constable and later tried to bite him on the hand.”
