A chef was fined yesterday after brandishing two knives when a party turned sour at his mother’s home in Inverness.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday that two men and a woman had “trashed” the property in the city’s Ashton Road before 21-year-old Aiden Macdonald ended up with a cut nose and a black eye.
But when police arrived, officers charged Macdonald and refused to take action against the party-goers, defence solicitor John MacColl told Sheriff Margaret Neilson yesterday.
He added: “The house was left in disarray by the alleged victims in this case and when my client asked them to leave, he was violently assaulted, leaving him with a cut nose and a black eye.
“He tried to make a complaint against them but police refused to take it and spoke to him in industrial language to ‘be quiet’. He may come back to this in due course.
“He picked up the knives to get them out of there and he came off worse.”
Asked by Sheriff Neilson if any action had happened since, Mr MacColl replied: “I am not aware of any action taken against them.”
Fining Macdonald £300, the sheriff said: “In the somewhat unusual circumstances, I am prepared to deal with this by a fine.”
At an earlier hearing, Macdonald admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, shouting and swearing and brandishing two knives at the three people on January 10.
Sentence was deferred until yesterday for a background report.
