A man was left unconscious in an Aberdeen street following a brawl outside a popular city centre bar.
Karl Booth appeared from custody at the city’s sheriff court yesterday and admitted punching Gideon Harmsworth on the head outside The Stag at about 3.30am on Sunday.
The court heard a crowd had gathered around the pair on Crown Street following an argument outside the bar which spilled into the middle of the street.
Booth, of Bayview Court, Aberdeen, then punched Harmsworth about three or four times to the head, leaving him “briefly” unconscious.
Mr Harmsworth was then taken on to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) to be treated for a wound to his head.
Yesterday the court heard Booth, 24, had been on a night out with his friends at the time of the confrontation.
Police tracked him down on Thursday after reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.
Fiscal depute, Sophie Hanlon, said: “At the time the accused was out with friends. At the doorway to The Stag on Crown Street, an argument took place which spilled into the road.
“A small crowd gathered at the corner of Crown Street and Windmill Brae.
“(The) accused was seen to punch the complainer to the head three or four times causing him to fall to the ground.”
She added Mr Harmsworth “lost consciousness” but then “regained” it and was helped to his feet.
Thereafter he was taken into the offices of a taxi company to be cared for, before being taken to ARI.
Ms Hanlon added: “The complainer had open wounds to the top of his head, was taken to ARI found to have a 1cm laceration. That was glued closed.
“Further inquiries have been made by officers in respect of the CCTV evidence.
“Following these inquiries the accused was interviewed and thereafter arrested, cautioned and charged.”
Sheriff Alison Stirling deferred Booth’s sentencing to allow for a criminal justice and social work report to be prepared.
He will be sentenced on December 21.
