Inverness man brandished knife inside McDonald’s restaurant

A 27-year-old Inverness man was seen brandishing a knife inside a city centre McDonald’s restaurant by staff.
Daniel Donoghue, whose address in court was given as New Craigs hospital, admitted committing a breach of the peace inside the restaurant and on neighbouring Castle Street, at about 8.10pm on February 16 last year.
Fiscal depute Michelle Molley told Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday that staff saw Donoghue entering the McDonald’s restaurant and brandish a “metal butter knife” at furniture.
She added when he sat over at the counter he was asked to leave.
“He staggered out with the knife still visible on Castle Street,” She said.
“He staggered across Castle Street while there was moving traffic. In what appeared to be deliberate actions he repeatedly staggered back and forth in front of moving vehicles, causing drivers to take evasive action. Traffic flow was heavy and several road users and pedestrians were put at risk of injury.”
Ms Molley added that Donoghue was picked up by police cameras and was taken into custody on February 23.
The knife was not recovered.
