A Moray driver has been banned from the roads after being caught nearly seven-times the drink drive limit.

Linda Campbell, of Bogton Road in Forres, was stopped by police in Kinloss on July 29 last year.

Officers pulled the 41-year-old over near the Spar shop in the village and immediately breathalysed her shortly before 8pm.

After giving a positive reading Campbell was taken to the police station in Elgin where she provided another positive sample just after 9pm.

The later reading showed the Forres resident had 150microgrammes of alcohol in 100milliliters of breath – the legal limit is 22mcg.

Fiscal depute David Morton said: “The reading was clearly very significantly in excess of the legal limit.”

Campbell appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to the offence.

Defence solicitor Stephen Carty explained a “tragic set of circumstances” in his client’s private life had led up to the incident.

Campbell also appeared in the dock to be sentenced after pleading guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive behaviour at the A96 in Alves by shouting, screaming and swearing on June 28 last year.

After being arrested by police she assaulted Constable Anya Cox by repeatedly kicking her on the body.

Campbell was banned from driving for two years, placed under supervision for six months and ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work.
