Highland man went to drive around parked cars… Then struck one

A retired heavy transport driver was fined £100 and incurred three penalty points after he admitted a charge of careless driving at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday.
The court was told that John Porter, 87, of West Banks Avenue, Wick, pulled out to clear some parked vehicles but misjudged the manoeuvre and struck one of them.
There was traffic approaching at the time, from the opposite direction, in Main Street, Castletown, on September 17 last year.
The offence was said to be at the lower end of the careless driving scale.
Sheriff Andrew Berry observed from a report that there was no issue with Porter’s fitness to drive.
