A young Inverness mother caught with 100g of heroin in her underwear was acquitted of drug dealing by a jury yesterday.
After a two-day trial at Inverness Sheriff Court, the jury unanimously found the charge of being concerned in the supply of drugs not proven against 26-year-old Stacey Wallace, formerly of Smithton Park.
The offence was alleged to have taken place between May 4 and May 10 last year.
Wallace gave evidence after police had told how a surveillance operation over a period of months led to her arrest and that of three others.
She told the jury she thought she was just going to buy drugs from a Liverpudlian man, who had retrieved them from the banks of the Caledonian Canal.
“When we saw the police, I put the drugs in my underwear because I was told to, mainly out of fear.” she told the jury.
She added that she had detoxed, moved house, removed herself from the group involved in drugs and had the support of her family.
