Two Moray teenagers who embarked on a spree of destruction at a building site will have to wait to learn their fates.
The duo caused almost £40,000 of damage at an Elgin construction site after stealing a digger and using it to destroy other pieces of equipment.
The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also stole cash from Elgin Academy days before entering the Hamilton Gardens site on December 14 last year.
The 16-year-olds were due to be handed out punishments at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday, but sentence was deferred.
Sheriff Chris Dickson asked that psychiatric reports be undertaken on one youth, while officials will evaluate whether another is suitable for being placed on a restriction of liberty order.
The boys previously admitted “maliciously” entering the construction area without permission and using the true key to start a New Holland digger.
After getting the excavator moving, they drove it around the yard – crashing through fencing and damaging underground drains and electrical cables.
The arm of the digger was then used to drag a hefty Doosan excavator before the cab was torn off and pressed into the ground. It is estimated that £37,000 worth of damage was caused during the rampage.
The pair also pleaded guilty to stealing £100 from Elgin Academy’s caretaker room, along with tobacco and cigarette papers.
