Edgar Sorokin pounced on the 39 year-old woman in Peterhead in August, 2015. Sorokin was later held and bailed by a sheriff – but initially failed to return to the dock after claiming he could not afford his fare to court. The 24 year-old Lithuanian was convicted of rape last month despite claiming the woman consented. Sorokin was today locked up at the High Court in Glasgow. Lord Kinclaven told him: “In the whole circumstances, it is clear there is no alternative, but a significant custodial sentence”. Sorokin was also placed on the sex offenders list.
