Woman seized schoolgirl in play park and held her against her will

A woman has pleaded guilty to seizing a seven-year-old girl and detaining her against her will at a play park in Lerwick this spring.

Sarah Irvine, 31, whose address was given as Grampian Prison, appeared from custody to admit the offence at Lerwick Sheriff Court yesterday.

She pleaded guilty to conducting herself in a disorderly manner at Sandveien play park and elsewhere in the housing estate on 17 April this year.

She seized the girl, lifted her off the ground, carried her away and detained her against her will, as well as committing a breach of the peace.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie moved for sentence to be passed, and acting defence agent Chris Dowle requested that the matter be deferred for her regular defence lawyer to be present to put forward a plea of mitigation.

Sheriff Philip Mann agreed to defer sentence until Wednesday and Irvine was remanded in custody in the meantime.
