Two men have been charged in connection to an alleged wilful fireraising at a north-east social club earlier this year.
The two 33-year-olds are accused of causing around £50,000 worth of damage when a plumber’s workshop was burnt out and the adjacent social club on Maud’s Market Street damaged.
The converted garage, which was used as local plumber Eddie Bruce’s store, neighboured the Buchan village’s social club which plays host to a variety of charity events and discos in the area.
The incident happened in the early hours of May 27 this year.
The men are due to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court today.
Last night Detective Sergeant Martyn Thomson said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended this fire along with police. The storage building and its contents was destroyed and there was also damage to the Social Club Building.
“We would like to thank the public for assisting us while inquiries were carried out.”
