The two men accused of holding a disabled woman at knifepoint while they robbed her flat turned on each other as their trial continued today.
Ian Wilcox, 38, and Dean Wells, 25, are accused of assaulting and robbing Dianna Weir at Cockmuir Place in the town.
They deny the charge and are on trial at the town’s sheriff court.
Both of the accused were called to give evidence, and both put the blame on each other as tensions boiled over in the courtroom.
Wilcox, of Hermes Road in Elgin, claimed that he had been in the kitchen with Miss Weir and was paying for drugs when she asked for more money.
After he refused to pay, he said Miss Weir turned on him, and attempted to pull out a knife.
He and Wells, of Elgin’s Kingsmills, left the property, before, he claimed, he discovered that his co-accused had stolen goods from the house.
Order had to be restored when Wells challenged the claim, shouting “why didn’t you tell the police that then?”
Well’s defence agent Brent Lockie questioned whether Wilcox had a “clear recollection” of events, having admitted to taking drugs and alcohol on that night.
And fiscal Ross Carvel questioned his claim that he was unaware that the goods were being stolen.
He said: “You kept her in the kitchen, didn’t you? You put your hand over her mouth.”
Wells was then called to give evidence, and he told the court that he was not at the property when the alleged crime took place.
He claimed to have met Mr Wilcox later in the evening walking with a bag, which Wells said he didn’t realise was filled with the alleged loot.
But Wilcox’s defence solicitor Ian Houston said that if Wells wasn’t involved it would have been an “amazing list of coincidences” which led to him being accused.
The trial continues today.
