A Moray man has been fined £360 for verbally abusing police officers and threatening to throw them out of a window.
Gordon Christie, of Anderson Crescent in Forres, sighed in the dock at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday as a transcript of the abuse he hurled at officers was read out.
Fiscal Alex Swain said that a female acquaintance of the 57-year-old called police to an address at MacDonald Drive in Forres at 11.30pm on Tuesday, October 26, last year.
She added: “When two officers got there, the woman was heavily intoxicated and the accused – who had also been drinking – became argumentative and aggressive.
“He was warned to stop swearing at officers, but continued with his tirade of abuse and stated that he was going to throw them through a window.
“The accused was arrested and taken to Elgin police station, where he continued to swear at the officers.”
Christie later admitted a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
His solicitor, Stephen Carty, explained that the officers had been called to the address because of a false accusation Christie’s drinking partner made against him.
Mr Carty said: “It is fair to say that alcohol had been consumed by both parties, and the householder made an utterly fictitious complaint to the police about my client.
“The accused was taken aback as to why the officers were even there, and felt somewhat aggrieved by this.
“But he accepts that the language he used was inappropriate.”
Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov ordered Christie to pay the £360 penalty in weekly instalments of £5.
