A motorist who was clocked by police travelling at 137mph on the notorious A9 between Inverness and Thurso was banned from driving for 18 months yesterday,
Sentence had been deferred on 27-year-old Thomas Metcalfe of South Dyke, Penrith, Cumbria, who last month admitted driving dangerously on a dual carriageway stretch at Arpafeelie on October 2 last year.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Metcalfe was working on laying railway track for the north line and was late for his shift.
Defence solicitor John Gallagher said his client, who was also ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, took “full responsibility for his act of stupidity.”
